Justin Wallace

Justin helps people and businesses solve problems with insurance.  Oftentimes that means bringing claims against insurance companies for breaching an insurance agreement as well as for “bad faith” in the handling of a claim.  Justin has handled hundreds of property damage cases and has spoken at seminars for attorneys on insurance bad faith and other topics as well as written for the Wisconsin State Bar on “Insurance Bad Faith 101”.  Justin has represented health, life, accidental death, liability, ERISA, long term care, renters, builders risk, pet, and travel insurance claimants in state and Federal court in several states.  He has filed and resolved class action lawsuits on behalf of travel insurance policyholders who were denied benefits for a common reason.  Justin has represented long term care policyholders in several states who paid premiums for decades only to be denied benefits when needed.  Justin has also brought claims against insurance agencies and insurance agents, brokers, TPAs, and other insurance-related entities.  In his sixteen years of practice, Justin has been counsel of record in Wisconsin civil state court on 535 occasions.

 Justin spent the first twelve years of his legal career representing many of Wisconsin’s largest insurance companies.  Ultimately a strong (sometimes too strong) personal disgust with large entities using power, leverage and white shoe lawyers to take advantage of smaller, normal folks led him to represent people who need help.  When you suffer a big loss to your home or business, the average person needs help and needs it fast.  Reasons why the insurance company just can’t help this month are not enough when you don’t have power after a tornado.  An insurance company telling you six months later they’ll pay you a tenth of the cost to repair the damage isn’t fair or right.  Your calls should be answered in a reasonable fashion and you should know what’s going on.  You should be treated like a human being who paid fair and square for a contract with promises–an insurance policy–in the unfortunate event you need it, not like some quasi-criminal bothering them for something free or undeserved.

 Except in rare scenarios, Justin only works with people on a contingency fee.  He understands that, after a calamity of some sort, people do not need a big lawyer retainer to add to their list of expenses.  Justin also appreciates how this places him directly on the same team as his client.  If you don’t get paid, neither does he.

 Justin grew up in rural western New York where he graduated high school in three years and spent a year abroad in southern France prior to attending Grinnell College.  He worked at McDonalds, in a grocery store seafood department, as a pizza delivery guy, at a cheerleading equipment warehouse and on farms growing up.  After graduating from Grinnell with degrees in math and English in 2005, Justin moved to Madison and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2008 with honors.  Justin truly enjoyed his time in Madison in law school; he has practiced in the Manitowoc/Sheboygan area since graduation.  

 Justin has a passion for his legal fights but he also cherishes his personal life.  He lives on a lake in Manitowoc County surrounded by dairy farms with his Susan and Liam, 8, as well as Sam the Bernese Mountain Dog and Zurich the Bernedoodle, who can often be found guarding the office from kibble.  Justin and Susan have been to Belize, Bonaire, Ireland, the French and Swiss Alps, and Chile in the last few years, mostly skiing or scuba diving while enjoying the food and culture.  Justin played on baseball, soccer, swimming, water polo, cross country, and golf teams in high school and college, plays ~1000 chess games a year (chess.com rapid high of 1746), collects sports cards, sings dumb songs about the dogs, gives himself pep talks in the shower, skis twin tips like a 12 year old, plays golf to a single digit, does laps on the sxs/dirt bike trail in the woods, plays too much piano for everyone’s liking, thought Japan was amazing, catches bass and pike off the backyard dock, watches plenty of NFL, college football, Badger football, basketball, wrestling, and volleyball, takes his motorcycle to client meetings, swims across the lake, takes care of his elderly father, chases sharks while scuba diving, has perfected scratching two dogs at one time, loves his Saturday morning trip to the dump in the side by side playing music with his puppy, and had his last drink over seven years ago. 

 Part of the reason Justin loves to travel is his appreciation for everything that other cultures have to offer.  It really irks his noodle when insurance companies take advantage of people because they don’t speak the language well, because they are “foreign”, or because they are not perfect human beings.  If you pay money for insurance, you have the right to make a claim and be treated fairly.  We welcome any and every human being who has a problem with insurance to reach out to us; we’ll do everything in our power find a way to communicate with you, understand your problem, and see what we can do to help.
